Pineapple Upside Down Cake cocktail (January 27, 2013)

1 1/2 oz gin
2 oz pineapple juice
3/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz vanilla syrup
1/2 oz orgeat syrup

If desired rim glass with vanilla syrup and brown sugar, or simply garnish with a maraschino cherry.

After a brisk day spent outside doing chores and making ready for winter, this smoooooth sipper hits the spot.

1 oz Canadian whisky
1/4 oz Cointreau
1/4 oz maple liqueur
1/4 oz apricot brandy
1/4 oz Fernet-Branca

Skoglander

Skoglander (October 28, 2012)

1 oz pear nectar
1 oz Laird’s Applejack
1/2 oz bourbon
1 heaping teaspoon Cointreau-soaked lingonberry jam

Shake well with ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass (fine strain if you don’t like berry pips).

Created for Ian Skogland, who unfortunately was not here to taste it, but his wife said he would like it.

Framboise et citron

Framboise et citron Version 1 – short (September 30, 2012)

8 raspberries
1 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz limoncello
1/4 oz raspberry syrup

Muddle these ingredients well in a mixing glass, then add:

1/4 oz Lillet Blanc
1/4 oz Campari
2 oz vodka

Shake well with ice and fine strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon strip and raspberries.

Yu and Ume

1 oz vodka
1 oz Choya 23 umeshu liqueur
3/4 oz Lillet Blanc
Generous dash Yuzu essence

I have a problem with impulse buying at the LCBO. Today’s purchase was the Choya. I’ve seen it for ages and wanted to try it. It reminds me of the liqueur inside those boozy chocolate cherries your parents tried to keep away from you as a kid. Intense but pleasant.

Named for Blair’s show of new paintings and for the Brian Eno tune.

1 oz Sailor Jerry’s spiced rum
1 oz mango nectar
1/2 oz passionfruit juice
1/2 oz Lillet Blanc
5 drops Peychaud’s bitters

Shake with ice and pour into cocktail glass, then drizzle with 1/2 tsp Blue Curacao and 1/2 tsp real pomegranate grenadine
