1 oz vodka
1 oz Choya 23 umeshu liqueur
3/4 oz Lillet Blanc
Generous dash Yuzu essence
I have a problem with impulse buying at the LCBO. Today’s purchase was the Choya. I’ve seen it for ages and wanted to try it. It reminds me of the liqueur inside those boozy chocolate cherries your parents tried to keep away from you as a kid. Intense but pleasant.
We bought a nice melon at the farmers’ market last week but didn’t get around to it until now.
8 small balls of melon, pureed with 1/2 oz simple syrup using a stick blender Pour pureed melon into a cocktail shaker and add a generous dash of blood orange bitters (or regular orange) and 2 oz vodka. Shake well and fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
2 oz roasted coconut juice
1 oz mango juice
1 1/2 oz white rum
juice of half a lime.
This one got quite a lot of chatter on my FB when I posted it. The roasted coconut juice should be available in cans where Thai groceries are sold; the brand I used is FOCO. The juice is clear and it has fairly large chunks of coconut in it; the flavour is fairly subtle, and it made sweet music with the rum and mango. The lime keeps it from being too sweet.
